Electric System

Electric System

In the mid-1970's the commission and the City of Fitzgerald jointly entered into a power sales contract together with 45 other cities to become one of the founding cities to form the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia or MEAG. MEAG cities can provide their customers with comparable lower rates due to MEAG's foresight in making sound business decisions.

Fitzgerald Utilities electric distribution system covers a service area of approximately 23 square miles. The system consists of four substations with over 200 miles of 12.47 KV lines. A diesel generator is used during peak electrical loads. This helps lower the city demand and results in savings to our electric customers.
